Building Your Catalog

Your catalog is the foundation on which all your proposals, pricing, work orders, material orders, instant estimator details, and many other Roofer tools will pull from. Without a complete catalog, your Roofer tools won't work the way they're supposed to. Think of your catalog as the heart of your Roofer account.

Importance of Your Catalog

Taking the time to get this set up properly will not only simplify a lot of your work in the future, but will also:

• Ensure your quotes are priced properly and accurately
• Help your team to work faster 
• Reduce mistakes
• Unify coverage, unit costs, and waste factor at the material level to simplify proposal calculations. 

No one knows your pricing like you do, and it's important to slot a good chunk of time into getting your catalog set up. We get it. It's a time consuming task, but we promise it's worth it, and we have some cool built in tools to help make it easier. Knowing your catalog really well will also make it easy to update and troubleshoot in the future, so trust us. This is time well spent. Make that pot of coffee. Throw on some good tunes and spend time with your catalog.

Building Your Catalog Yourself

If you want to try it yourself or to get the ball rolling before connecting with our team, here's how:

1. Go to your catalog by navigating to the manage section of your sidebar. Click on catalog to open it up. 
2.  Upload a bulk list if you have a material list created on a spreadsheet
3. OR,  add individual items one at a time.

If you choose to do a bulk upload, your sheet will have to be formatted in line with our CSV template. You can download that above. There's also a help article on our format guidelines HERE.

If you don't want to bulk upload or you're adding an individual item later on, you simply add a new line item and a new line item will populate at the bottom of your catalog.

You can then:

• Name that item
• Select measurement
• Customize your unit cost
• Add waste
• Set tax

Editing Items

You can click on Edit at the far right of the line item to open up more details about the material. Add a description, tax info, and more in this tab. If you're an ABC Supply user, you can connect to your account for real time integrated pricing.

That way, your pricing is always accurate and up to date. 

 You'll need to connect your ABC Supply account to your Roofer account for this integration to work. A how-to guide for that is HERE.

You can use this Edit button to update any existing catalog items in the future. 

if pricing or waste factor, for example, needs to be changed, you can easily update it here.

Changing Your View and Filtering

Prefer to view your catalog in alphabetical order? Or want to see what materials you added the most recently? Change your view with the filter and sort button at the top. You can also sort by item type, by material, labor, or other. Views can be saved so you can set your preferred view to be the default view.

Bulk Upload Items to Your Catalog

Adding items one at a time can be a huge time commitment commitment. There's a few different options to add in items in bulk, uploading a document or by selecting a roofing system. To set up your catalog in bulk, you can upload an existing document using our free template to input your existing items with much less manual work.

This is the CSV format we talked about before.

Again, the link to that and the help article is in the description of this lesson. If you have a lot of editing to do, you can download a CSV of your catalog, make edits, and then re-upload it with fresh information. 

For uploading a file to your catalog, it'll open up a page where you can select what you want to do: 

1. Add new items
2. Update existing items 
3. Import roofing systems. 

Select the option you want to go through. In the case we just talked about, Uploading in bulk. It'll walk you through, step by step, how to get the information into your roofer account. 

You can always exit out of that workflow if you aren't ready with your changes yet.

Importing By Roofing System 

Uploading a roofing system will let you choose which brand you use, including:

• Atlas
• BP
• CertainTeed
• GA
• IKO
• Owens Corning

Uploading via a roofing system will automatically add the name, measurement, coverage, and unit. You'll just have to set your price, waste factor, and taxes.

If you use more than one roofing system, you can do this a few times until all your materials are added to your catalog. If you're starting from fresh for your catalog, you can download a template to start building it out in order to do a bulk upload.
